Richard Reynolds is a solicitor in a small town in the South of England. He is about to get married to Mary, a nurse, and he becomes involved in the aftermath of the tragic death of Mary's father, who was a local police inspector killed in a car accident. Years later another tragedy occurs when his own parents are killed in a helicopter crash which leaves him as the main beneficiary of their estate. With his new-found wealth he sets up his own practice and just when he thinks that his life is settled he witnesses an attempted murder near his office. The case is an enigma to the police who are completely baffled by the murder weapon...
