Through the eyes of Ishmael, anonymous sailor aboard the whaling ship Pequod, we witness the furious hunt of the savage white whale by the Captain Ahab. The Whale is an almighty monster symbolizing Nature and its power, but it is furthermore the symbol of Evil itself. What Melville stages in this book is the endless struggle of Humanity against Evil.
