Description of book

Six short stories from the Queen of Crime, featuring our favourite young detectives, Tommy and Tuppence.

Tommy and Tuppence Beresford were restless for adventure, so when they were asked to take over Blunt’s International Detective Agency, they leapt at the chance.

After their triumphant recovery of a pink pearl, intriguing cases kept on coming their way: a stabbing on Sunningdale golf course; cryptic messages in the personal columns of newspapers; and even a box of poisoned chocolates.

Tommy and Tuppence can be terribly tiresome. Agatha Christie wrote these novels towards the end of her long and productive life and, in my view, that tends to show. The premise though is fun. Tommy and Tuppence solve mysteries in the style of several different crime writers and the references to “the little grey cells“, are fun. Christie definitely had a sense of humour. These novels are light and entertaining and dated – which is only to be expected. The narration is absolutely top hole and the interview with Hugh Fraser at the end is very interesting and amusing. I was pleased to hear that his favourite character is Ariadne Oliver,
