Description of book
Max Tudor has adapted well to his post as vicar of St. Edwold's in the idyllic village of Nether Monkslip. The quiet village seems the perfect home for Max, who has fled a harrowing past as an MI5 agent. But this new-found serenity is quickly shattered when the highly vocal and unpopular president of the Women's Institute turns up dead at the Harvest Fayre. The death looks like an accident, but Max's training as a former agent kicks in, and before long he suspects foul play. As the investigation unfolds, Max becomes more intricately involved. Memories he'd rather not revisit are stirred, evoking the demons from the past which led him to Nether Monkslip.

Reviews of Wicked Autumn
Unfortunately, and to my surprise, I’m just not able to finish this. It started well and I was really excited to think that I had found a series to get stuck into. These books have excellent reviews on the Goodreads website, so please don’t take my word for this.. It starts interesting and entertaining but begins to flag after a while. Over-exaggerated, dated stereotypes of a village and village characters. The author is American and a few Americanisms have surprisingly not been edited out. What is supposed to give a feel for an English village is essentially histrionic, even for cosy crime. I’m 25% of the way through and there has been no murder but an extensive, elaborate set- up, that’s now more like a pantomime. It would’ve been acceptable if written in the 50s or 60s and self consciously dated. I just can’t take any more and I’m really sorry about that. The author clearly has many fans and I am undoubtedly in a very small minority.
