Animal Farm, first published on August 17, 1945, is an allegorical novel.
The story is set on a farm near Willingdon, England, where the animals decide to rebel, tired of their exploitation by Mr. Jones, the farmer. Mr. Jones is sent away and the animals, after renaming the farm as Animal Farm, write the Seven Commandments, the most important of which reads: All animals are equal. But this is only the beginning...
When the novel appeared it was immediately very successful. Still today it fascinates millions of readers around the world.

George Orwell, pseudonym of Eric Arthur Blair, was born in Motihari on 25 June 1903.
Even today he is considered one of the greatest and most influential English authors of the Twentieth Century. Orwell had socialist political ideas, even if anti-Soviet, and he was gifted with strong acumen and a visionary mind. He died in London on January 21, 1950.
