I absolutely loved this! I think it is the first novel in which Miss Marple features, and it is terrific. Agatha Christie was by no means a softy, and her depictions of the various characters are sharp indeed, in places. I really would like to know if any real murder has been so complicated as those in crime novels and, really, the solution here is a over elaborate: a bit of aanticlimax - but aren’t they so often? Richard E Grant performs, rather than narrates, apparently, and his performance is excellent, save, perhaps, for the Scottish and Irish accents, which are rather overdone. His Miss Marple is very much, to me, like Joan Hickson, my absolute favourite. The old biddies around the village are a real hoot and I often rewound to re-listen to them. Agatha Christie was no fool, by any means and her insights are piercing. It’s interesting that her nephew, Raymond West, here, it’s really a bit of a bore, but in later novels he becomes much more sound and a real support to Miss Marpl
