"Audrey" by Mary Johnston is a psychological story of a young man, set in colonial Virginia. Marmaduke Haward, a handsome, wealthy plantation owner joins an expedition party led by the governor to mark out boundaries in Indian territory. In the valley through the mountains, they discover a pioneer family. He abandons the expedition and returns just in time to rescue Audrey, the youngest child from disaster.
