"The King in Check" is a Middle Eastern novel by the author Talbot Mundy, part of his 'Jimgrim' series. Set in the early nineteenth century, it follows the exploits of a team of soldiers led by the American James Schuyler Grim, or "Jimgrim". In this adventure, Grim has been roped into the fight to establish the Arabian prince, Faisal, as King of the entire Middle East. The efforts to do so are however floundering with the British supporting Faisal but the French opposing him, putting him in danger of capture. Grim proposes to his associate Jeremy Ross that he give the gold mine he had acquired to Faisal, to enable him to equip an army for his cause. But will it be enough…
