This play follows the lives of the March family in their Highgate house during the springtime. The play is divided into three acts, each taking place in the same dining room, at different times of day. The characters in the play include Geoffrey March, a freelance writer; his wife, Joan March; their daughter, Mary; their son, Johnny; their cook; Mr. Bly, their window cleaner; his daughter, Faith Bly; and Blunter, a strange young man. The play explores the themes of family, love, war, and social class.
