"Miss Lonelyhearts" is an Expressionist black comedy set in New York City during the Great Depression. A male newspaper columnist has a relationship advice column where he writes under the pseudonym "Miss Lonelyhearts." But the stress and strain of receiving letters from his readers as they bare out their problems to him becomes increasingly overwhelming. He resorts to heavy drinking and getting himself into bar fights. He also has several sexual affairs which soon threaten to bring the downfall of his career and the newspaper he serves…
