A Collection of College Words and Customs

A Collection of College Words and Customs

Description of book

This book is a revised edition of a compilation of student peculiarities, words and customs that are unique to American colleges. The author initially compiled the work anonymously during his college days, and his friends dubbed him an "Antiquarian" for hunting up odd words and quirky customs. The book includes an account of the oldest affiliated literary society in the United States and has been revised with new articles and additions to the collection of technicalities peculiar to English universities. Despite the fact that some of the words and customs may lack refinement or may be "More honored in the breach than the observance," the author believes that nothing in language or manners is too insignificant for the attention of those who are interested in studying the character of man.
